Birthday layout

I've been busy so my scrapbooking has fallen behind. It's now approaching the 3 year lag. At least I got the 2011 birthday layouts done before this year's birthdays roll around.

Jillibean Soup Macho Nacho papers and stickers, epoxy buttons and canvas stars from the Card Kitchen June 2012 kit. Other: Colorbok cardstock, unknown buttons and Star Wars confetti.

This was the party for which I made the lightsaber favors (here and here).

I have another 2 layouts finished, but I haven't been able to get good photos with all the rain we're getting.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We're having some "quiet time" before the rest of the family arrives for the big dinner, so I figured I'd post my Thanksgiving crafts:

I cut the leaves with my Cricut Expressions 2 (Cricut Essentials and Designer Calendar cartridges) from a bunch of scraps of paper -- Scenic Route (Salem), K&Co., GCD Studio (Lost in Paradise), Jillibean Soup (Staples on Kraft). Sassafras alphabet stickers, Tim Holtz distress ink, Colorbox pigment ink. I adhered the leaves to the vine wreath with my hot glue gun.

Then the kids (and Grammy) made some place holders for the table:

I used scraps of American Crafts cardstock and 2 punches (circle and flower).

Super birthday

Last year my oldest turned 4 and we had a joint party for both boys at the "favorite park". This is probably the most extensive journaling I have ever done on a layout:

I used Basic Grey - Life of the Party and Doodlebug Tangerine Stripe Card from the Apron Strings May'11 STBB kit. American Crafts cardstock; SRM stickers; WRMK variegated floss and Sew Easy piercer (Zig Zag). The rest are ephemera from the party, including the most expensive party napkins on the planet -- but they had The Flash, which is what mattered most.

And I hid my cupcake making in the pocket:

More lightsabers

Somehow, while browsing through the party supply store, I came up with another light saber party favor. So I had to order more brads for this:

I "dressed up" mini M&Ms containers with a silver cardstock from DCWV. The black punched top follows my tutorial, while the bottom was decorated with a Sticko - wood stripe - rub-on by EK success. (I realized afterwords that stamping would have been more efficient, but I'm not a stamper... yet ;) Jewel and pearl brads from Eyelet Outlet & Brads.

For the boys

Both my boys have April birthdays, 2 weeks apart, so we are celebrating them with a big joint party next weekend. This year the theme they chose was Star Wars, as they have been watching the movies non-stop for the past few months (all except Episode III, which we think they are still too young to watch). So I spent the day making light saber party favors:

I used SRM Magic Wand tubes (who thought they were too girly for boys?), Bazzill cardstock, EK Success ribbon punch; McGills ribbon punch; Glue Arts Extreme adhesive; Queen&Co. red pearls; and mini pearl brads from Eyelet Outlet & Brads. Tubes were filled with M&Ms. These light sabers were so easy that I figured I post a tutorial.

Start by cutting the cardstock - gray 2" x 2 1/2" and black 2"x 2 1/8"

Punch gray cardstock piece with ribbon  slot punches:

Add extreme adhesive to the back of gray cardstock piece to adhere the black cardstock piece:

Pierce two holes on the front and insert brads:

Add adhesive to the back on both sides. I found that the extreme adhesive squares were better for the closing lip, but the roller worked fine for attaching the cardstock to the tube.

Roll the cardstock hilt to the base of the tube (so it will stand om the hilt):

Attach the adhesive pearl to the opposite side from the brads.

I didn't have red brads and I really liked the rim on the brads, so I used both. However, all brad or all adhesive pearls would work just fine. These were quick and easy to make 20 in a couple of hours (while "helping" Dada do the taxes). And the kids are having so much fun filling them with M&Ms that they didn't want the filling part to be a "party activity" as I had envisioned...

Diaper cake

Here is a totally different project I made with the apple paper from Best Creation Inc - teachers pet, a diaper cake for my 2 year-old's teacher who will be going on maternity leave this week.

I used 72 size 2 Pampers Swaddlers and there is a bottle of Johnson's Baby Head-to-Toe in the center of the base to give it structure. I forgot to take a picture of the plate, on which I used a Sassafras paper to mask the 4th of July motif.
